Why Drinking Water Filters Are Better Than Distillation

In the long run, drinking water filters not only give you healthier water than distilled water, but less expensive water, too.

Distillation is one of the world’s oldest processes of purifying water. However, this process, although good, is not good enough for filtering out some of the things commonly found in public tap water today. This is one reason why you are better off getting a modern drinking water filter that uses KDF-55 rather than relying on distillation. Another reason is that drinking water filters work a lot faster than distillation.

The Distillation Process

You’ll find a lot of bottled water sold as “distilled water“. What does that really mean? What process has this water been through?

In distillation, a large set up of tubes and heat-proof canisters is required. This means you can only get a small amount of drinkable water after the process is all done. First off, the questionable water is placed in the largest container and heated. As the water heats up, it turns into steam, which leads to condensation. This condensation then drips from a hose into another smaller container.

You might be more familiar with “stills” set up for moonshine or other alcoholic beverages. There was even one in the doctor’s tent in the long-running television series “MASH”.

Disadvantages

With distillation, you start off with a large amount of liquid and wind up with a small amount of liquid. Some of the liquid is lost through heating. With the needs of modern households, you can’t wait for your water to be distilled. A drinking water filter works a lot faster, without heating up your water and loosing any to heat.

Drinking water filters are also a lot smaller than a distillery. There are no long tubes and beakers to fumble about with. You don’t need to supervise a drinking water filter, either. Because of the amount of heat needed, sometimes the distillery can’t take it anymore and explodes. Thankfully, that can’t happen with drinking water filters.

VOCs

Another major disadvantage to distilled water is that VOCs have not been removed. VOC is mercifully short for Volatile Organic Chemicals. Although some organic things are good for you, organic chemicals in your dinking water are NOT among them! VOC is an umbrella term, or overall classification, for hundreds of different organic chemicals. They have been found in the drinking water in almost all American states since 1977. Distilled water will still have VOCs in them. But water gone through a drinking water filter with KDF-55 will not. Sometimes KDF-55, a combination of copper and zinc chemical compound, is referred to only as KDF.

How vile are VOCs? With long term exposure through drinking and skin absorption when you bathe, the least you’ll get is itchy, irritated skin and unmanageable hair. Other people can get respiratory problems, liver and kidney problems and even cancer. Some people have also had problems with their nervous systems when exposed to VOCs for a long time.

There are shower head water filters that can help you avoid bathing in VOC and chlorine contaminated water. But for drinking water, you should use drinking water filters designed specifically for your tap. They fit standard faucets and don’t need special tools in order to install.

Drinking Water Filters – Drinking Water From a Filter Will Give You a Much More Crisp Water Taste

There are still many people who have to drink dirty tap water out of their sinks. The saddest part of this is that research has found over 2000 cancer-causing agents in the United States drinking water. While this doesn’t seem to be a situation that is very high on President Obama’s priority list, there is something that we can do about it. By using drinking water filters, we can filter the tap water and reduce the amount of dirty and bad chemicals that are in the water that we drink.

Many people do not even realize that drinking water straight from the sink is bad for us; in fact most of us just tend to brush it aside because we think of water as something that is supposed to be so good for us. Well, generally, this is the case; water is very good us, but we need to be careful about what sources we get our water from. By using a filter, we can surely bypass a lot of the chemicals found in our drinking water.

But there are many other advantages as well, such as improving the taste. Tap water is the worst tasting water that one can drink, and that’s just the simple truth. By filtering out water, we can improve the taste significantly to a more pure, crisp, and refreshing taste, one that will leave us desiring another cold glass.

It is important for one to understand the disadvantages of drinking straight tap water. There are many useful advantages to using a filter for your drinking water.

Gav’s EV Conversion 2 – Dismantling the Tredia

Visit www.EVsecrets.com & grab my new EV Conversion book + video package! The Electric Car Conversion continues! Following on from my first video a few days earlier, this is where we finally find a way to get the Mitsubishi “Deadia” into the garage. Once in the garage the dismantling begins. We start by removing all the old bits & pieces not needed for an Electric Car. A few examples of now obsolete items I enjoyed removing were: Gas tank Exhaust system Fuel lines Petrol filler spout & lines Used engine oil Oil filter Petrol Filter Carburetor Radiator & lots of brown water And of course, The Planet Killer (the engine)! I have appeased the knuckle Gods many times over the last few days. I have made many a sacrifice of skin and blood to them, as it is written in the knuckle bible. You’ll notice I got a big suprise when looking at the gearbox after removing the engine… It wasn’t a good suprise either! Enjoy the story as it unfolds everyone.

Brita Water Filters Have an Impressive Track Record But Are They the Best?

Brita water filters have been around for over 40 years. The company, a family business, was started back in 1966 although its origins date back even further than that in England.

They have been at the forefront of water filtration technology for both the domestic and commercial markets. They are a world famous name and one of their most famous products is the Brita filter jug, pitcher.

This jug has been providing safe water for families for many years and it also has a good track record eliminating disease causing bacteria by 99.99999%, this includes Cholera, Salmonella, Typhoid, E. coli, and others. It also removes parasites and cysts by almost 100% and reduces heavy metals such as aluminum, lead and mercury by up to 95%. It also removes Volatile Organic Compounds, VOCs, to below detectable limits.

It is also known to remove radiological elements such as Radon 222 and improve the taste & odor of the water as well as removing chlorine, rust, pesticides, herbicides etc. making your water crystal clean and clear.

However one of the draw backs of brita water filters is the cost of filter replacement although the initial outlay of the pitcher is less than $35 the up keep of the filters runs to about $200 per year as each filter only filters up to 100 gallons and at a cost of $20 per replacement you will easily go through 10 filters a year, $200.

On the other hand the top brand of water filter that is a counter top unit and that can also filter out THMs and METBE, both highly dangerous chemical by products and carcinogenic gasoline additive, that the brita filters can’t remove, in addition to the same and greater filtration capacity can cost a mere $124.99, which may seem like a lot more money but when you compare that the yearly running costs are only 2 filters at $48.00 each, $96, you will be making savings almost immediately.

I always used to use a brita water filters but since I have had the top branded unit installed I find not only am I saving money but I also have the assurances that all the damaging contaminants in my water are filtered out even those few that even brita filters cannot remove.
